The Evolution of the Yudo Yuntu (Yudo 3): Yudo Auto’s Modern Electric Crossover
The Yudo Yuntu, marketed in several export markets as the Yudo 3 and in some countries as the Yudo K3, represents the latest chapter in the history of Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Yudo Auto. Introduced for the 2023 model year, the Yuntu replaced the aging Yudo π1 as the company’s primary subcompact electric crossover SUV. Built on an updated version of the π1 platform, the Yuntu incorporates improved battery technology, a more modern interior, and a fresh exterior design while maintaining the affordability that has characterized Yudo’s vehicles since the company was founded.
Although the Yuntu is still a relatively new model with a short production history, it marks an important milestone for Yudo Auto. It was the company’s first completely new production vehicle following a period of financial restructuring and a change in ownership. As a result, the Yuntu symbolizes both a technological update and a fresh start for the Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer.
A Brief History of Yudo Auto
Yudo Auto was established in 2015 in Putian, Fujian Province, China, to manufacture affordable battery-electric vehicles for the rapidly growing Chinese new-energy vehicle market. The company’s first production models, the π1 and π3, debuted in 2017 and entered production in 2018.
Despite an encouraging start, Yudo struggled financially as competition intensified among China’s electric vehicle manufacturers. Production was suspended during 2022 before Juneyao Group acquired the company and restarted operations. The Yuntu became the first all-new model introduced under the company’s reorganized ownership, debuting in early 2023.

Production Years
Production: 2023–present
The Yuntu entered production in February 2023 at Yudo’s manufacturing facility in Putian, China. It remains in production as the company’s primary subcompact crossover SUV. Unlike the earlier π1 and π3, which received only incremental updates during their lifecycles, the Yuntu represents a comprehensive modernization of Yudo’s compact electric vehicle platform.
Development and Design
Although the Yuntu shares its basic architecture with the earlier π1, engineers substantially revised the vehicle. The platform was modernized, the body redesigned, and the cabin updated with contemporary technology.
The exterior styling reflects a cleaner, more aerodynamic appearance than previous Yudo models. Designers incorporated a closed front fascia typical of battery-electric vehicles, slim LED lighting elements, sculpted body panels, and a floating-roof design that gives the crossover a more premium appearance.
The model was reportedly inspired by the Chinese Year of the Rabbit, with several styling elements intended to resemble rabbit features, including the headlamp design.
Model Year Evolution
2023
The Yuntu debuted in China in February 2023.
Two battery configurations were introduced:
- Standard Range
- Long Range
Both versions used the same front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous electric motor producing approximately 95 horsepower (70 kilowatts) and 122 pound-feet (165 newton-meters) of torque.
Available battery options included:
- 31.95-kilowatt-hour lithium iron phosphate battery
- 41.7-kilowatt-hour lithium iron phosphate battery
Official Chinese CLTC driving ranges were:
- 199 miles (320 kilometers)
- 258 miles (415 kilometers)
The new model featured numerous technological improvements over the π1, including:
- Dual digital displays
- Voice recognition
- Smartphone connectivity
- LED lighting
- Regenerative braking
- Multiple driving modes
- Over-the-air software capability
An optional entertainment package included karaoke microphones and an upgraded sound system, an unusual feature intended to appeal to younger buyers.
2024
During 2024, Yudo concentrated on expanding exports rather than significantly revising the vehicle.
The Yuntu entered additional international markets under different names, including Yudo 3 in Spain and Turkey and Yudo K3 in other European markets. Export versions were adapted to meet local safety and certification requirements while retaining the same basic powertrain.
No major mechanical changes were announced during the year.
2025
The 2025 model continued largely unchanged.
In several European markets, the vehicle remained available in a single, well-equipped Elite trim level featuring standard LED headlights, a 12.3-inch infotainment display, keyless entry, rear parking sensors, alloy wheels, and climate control. WLTP-rated driving range for export models equipped with the 41.7-kilowatt-hour battery was approximately 202 miles (325 kilometers).
2026
As of 2026, the Yuntu continues in production with no announced second generation. Yudo has continued marketing the vehicle as its entry-level global electric crossover while expanding its presence in selected overseas markets. Publicly available information indicates no major styling or mechanical revisions beyond ongoing production.
Models and Trim Levels
Unlike many competitors, the Yuntu has been marketed with a relatively simple lineup.
China (2023–Present)
- Standard Range
- Long Range
These variants are primarily distinguished by battery capacity and driving range rather than extensive differences in equipment.
Export Markets
The vehicle has generally been offered in a single trim:
- Elite
Equipment may vary slightly depending on the destination market, but the Elite model typically includes LED lighting, alloy wheels, dual digital displays, keyless entry, climate control, rear parking sensors, and a comprehensive infotainment system.
Mechanical Specifications
The Yuntu is built as a front-wheel-drive subcompact crossover SUV.
Key specifications include:
- Single front-mounted electric motor
- Front-wheel drive
- Single-speed reduction gearbox
- Five-passenger seating
- Five-door SUV body
- Lithium iron phosphate battery
- DC fast charging capability
- Regenerative braking
Vehicle dimensions include:
- Length: 158.9 inches
- Width: 68.3 inches
- Height: 64.0 inches
- Wheelbase: 97.6 inches
These compact dimensions position the Yuntu within the highly competitive global subcompact electric SUV segment.
Market Position
The Yuntu competes primarily with affordable electric crossovers in China and Europe. Its principal rivals include vehicles such as the Dacia Spring, Citroën ë-C3, BYD Dolphin, and other entry-level battery-electric SUVs.
Yudo emphasizes value, practical range, and comprehensive standard equipment instead of high performance or luxury appointments. This strategy allows the company to compete in markets where affordability remains an important purchasing factor.
Future Outlook
As Yudo continues rebuilding under Juneyao Group ownership, the Yuntu is expected to remain central to the company’s product portfolio. While no successor or major redesign has been officially announced, future updates are likely to focus on incremental improvements in battery technology, software, charging performance, and driver-assistance systems.
Although it is still early in its lifecycle, the Yudo Yuntu has become an important vehicle for the company. By replacing the π1 with a more refined and technologically advanced crossover, Yudo has demonstrated its commitment to remaining competitive in the rapidly evolving global electric vehicle market. If the company continues expanding into overseas markets while refining the Yuntu platform, the model could become the foundation for Yudo’s future growth and international recognition.
