The Evolution of the Yuanhang H9: The Development of Yuanhang Auto’s Flagship Electric Luxury SUV
The Yuanhang H9 represents one of the newest entries into China’s rapidly expanding premium electric vehicle market. Developed by Yuanhang Auto, a luxury electric vehicle brand established by the Dayun Group, the H9 was created to compete with large, high-end electric SUVs from both domestic and international manufacturers. Although the model’s production history is still relatively short, the H9 showcases the rapid pace of innovation occurring within China’s electric vehicle industry.
The Origins of Yuanhang Auto
Yuanhang Auto was introduced in August 2022 as the premium automotive division of the Dayun Group, a Chinese company with decades of experience manufacturing commercial vehicles, motorcycles, and heavy equipment. Rather than entering the crowded mass-market electric vehicle segment, Yuanhang positioned itself as a luxury brand focused on advanced technology, long driving range, and premium comfort.
At the company’s launch during the 2022 Chengdu Auto Show, Yuanhang unveiled four production-bound electric vehicles: the Y6 and Y7 luxury sedans, along with the H8 and H9 SUVs. The H9 was intended to serve as the brand’s flagship SUV, emphasizing spacious accommodations, high performance, and cutting-edge electric powertrain technology.

Development
Following its initial preview in 2022, the Yuanhang H9 made its official public debut during the 2023 Chengdu Auto Show. The SUV was built upon Yuanhang’s BHD (Beyond the Horizon of Drive) electric vehicle platform, which was developed with assistance from Bosch and Huawei. The platform was engineered to support multiple battery sizes, rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive layouts, and advanced driver assistance technologies.
The H9 entered production in 2024 at Dayun’s manufacturing facility in Yuncheng, Shanxi Province, China.
Production Years
2024โPresent
As of 2026, the Yuanhang H9 remains in its first generation with no major redesigns or facelifts announced. Since entering production in 2024, the model has received only minor specification and equipment updates while maintaining its original exterior and interior design.
Model Overview
The Yuanhang H9 is classified as a large luxury battery-electric SUV. It features a five-door body style and a spacious six-passenger interior arranged in a 2+2+2 seating configuration. Measuring approximately 205.5 inches long (5,220 mm) with a wheelbase of 123 inches (3,125 mm), the H9 ranks among the largest electric SUVs currently produced in China.
Its styling emphasizes smooth aerodynamic surfaces, flush-mounted door handles, slim LED lighting, and a minimalist luxury appearance. Inside, the vehicle offers a large central touchscreen, digital instrumentation, premium seating materials, facial recognition capability, and numerous electronic comfort features designed to compete with established luxury manufacturers.
Powertrain and Performance
All versions of the Yuanhang H9 utilize permanent-magnet synchronous electric motors and lithium nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery packs.
The SUV is available exclusively with dual-motor all-wheel drive. Depending on battery size and trim level, total system output ranges from approximately 671 horsepower to 697 horsepower.
Performance is impressive for a vehicle of its size. Every version accelerates from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in approximately 3.8 seconds while reaching a top speed of 130 mph (210 km/h). DC fast charging can replenish the battery from 30 percent to 80 percent in approximately 18 minutes under ideal conditions.
Trim Levels
Since its launch, the Yuanhang H9 has been offered in three primary trim levels.
2024 Model Year
650 km AWD Luxury
The entry-level model features:
- 98 kWh battery
- Dual-motor all-wheel drive
- Approximately 671 horsepower
- CLTC driving range of 404 miles (650 km)
This version provides nearly all of the H9’s luxury equipment while utilizing the smallest available battery pack.
840 km AWD Luxury
The mid-level model includes:
- Approximately 120 kWh battery
- Dual-motor all-wheel drive
- Approximately 671 horsepower
- CLTC driving range of 522 miles (840 km)
This trim primarily increases driving range while maintaining similar performance and equipment levels.
950 km AWD Yuanhang
The flagship trim includes:
- 150 kWh battery
- Dual-motor all-wheel drive
- Approximately 697 horsepower
- 850 Nm of torque
- CLTC driving range of 590 miles (950 km)
This top-tier version offers the largest battery, highest power output, and longest advertised driving range in the lineup.
Standard Equipment
Even the entry-level H9 includes an extensive list of premium features. Standard equipment includes:
- Adaptive LED headlights
- Frameless doors
- Soft-close power doors
- Power liftgate
- Flush power door handles
- Large panoramic glass roof
- Heated, ventilated, and power-adjustable seating
- Multiple digital displays
- Premium driver assistance systems
- Automatic parking assistance
- Remote parking capability
- Advanced lane-change assistance
- Facial recognition technology
- Over-the-air software update capability
These features position the H9 among the most technologically advanced vehicles produced by Yuanhang.
Competition
Within the Chinese domestic market, the Yuanhang H9 competes directly against several premium electric SUVs, including the Aito M9, Hongqi E-HS9, Li Auto L9, NIO ES8, and other luxury battery-electric SUVs.
Rather than emphasizing off-road capability, the H9 focuses on luxury, high-speed touring, extended driving range, and advanced in-car technology.
Sales and Market Position
The H9 entered a highly competitive luxury EV segment dominated by well-established Chinese manufacturers. Yuanhang’s relatively limited dealer network and newcomer status have presented challenges in building widespread brand recognition.
Nevertheless, the H9 demonstrates Dayun Group’s ambition to establish itself within China’s premium electric vehicle market by offering specifications that rival more established competitors, particularly in terms of battery capacity and driving range.
Future Outlook
As of 2026, no second-generation Yuanhang H9 has been officially announced. Industry observers expect Yuanhang Auto to continue refining its flagship SUV through software improvements, incremental equipment updates, and possible battery enhancements rather than introducing an immediate redesign.
Future versions may incorporate newer battery technologies, more advanced autonomous driving systems, improved infotainment software, and increased charging performance. However, these developments remain speculative until confirmed by Yuanhang Auto.
The long-term success of the H9 will depend not only on continued technological development but also on Yuanhang’s ability to expand its sales network, strengthen customer confidence, and compete against increasingly capable domestic luxury EV manufacturers.
Although the Yuanhang H9 has only been in production since 2024, it represents an ambitious effort by Yuanhang Auto to enter China’s growing luxury electric SUV segment. Built on a modern dedicated electric platform and offered exclusively with powerful dual-motor all-wheel-drive systems, the H9 combines impressive performance with exceptionally long advertised driving ranges and an extensive list of premium features.
Throughout its production history, the H9 has remained available in three trimsโthe 650 km AWD Luxury, 840 km AWD Luxury, and 950 km AWD Yuanhangโeach targeting buyers seeking different levels of battery capacity and range while maintaining a consistently high level of luxury equipment. As Yuanhang Auto continues to mature as a manufacturer, the H9 is expected to remain one of the brand’s flagship products and a showcase of its technological ambitions.
